Although there is one valence electron in the atom of hydrogen, there aren't any electrons in the first and second shell in the atom. Hydrogen is mostly found in big balls of gas, also known as stars, and water.
Located in the first column and in the first row is the hydrogen element. There are multiple elements very similar to the hydrogen element because they are all located in the first column and have the same valence electrons. Those elements are sodium, potassium, rubidium, and lithium.
Once the element hydrogen was found it was a gas, that when burned transformed into a liquid, which just so happened to be water. The person who discovered this element was Henry Cavendish, who found it in the year 1766.
