Celebration of what God brought you through
Noah celebrated coming through a life altering experience by creating an altar and worshipping God Gen 8:20
In the joy of their release Noah did not forget Him by whose gracious care they had been preserved. His first act after leaving the ark was to build and altar and offer a sacrifice thus manifesting his gratitude to the deliverance of God...
This is a lesson for all succeeding generations. Noah had come forth upon a desolate earth but before preparing a house for himself he built and altar to God. His stock of cattle was small and had been preserved at a great expense; yet he cheerfully gave them up as an acknowledgement that all was His.
It was in response to this that God made a promise to not destroy the earth with water again

Where ever he pitched his tent, close beside it was set up his altar, calling all within his encampment to the morning and evening sacrifice. when is tent was removed, the altar remained. In the following years, there were those among the roving canaanites who received instruction from Abraham; and when ever these came to that altar.. he repaired the altar and there worshipped God PP 128
