Alternative Assessments

in online learning

Right Content

Wrong Assessment
-Tests usually are less authentic measure of learning and understanding
- It is inadequate to determine just what students know. You need to be able to determine what they can do with that knowledge in the real world.
- Validity of multiple choice tests can be questionable, depending on answer (distraction) choices, number of questions, etc.
-assess low-level learning

So, What can we do?

Alternative Assessments for Online learning
Online learning is more than reading a text and taking a test or writing a response. There are many tools available to teachers and students.

Traditional Alternatives

  • Essays
  • Reports
  • Research Projects
  • Case Studies
  • Presentations
In a traditional face to face classroom, these are alternatives to testing. These could all be done online as well- by individuals or in groups.
