What is Alzheimer’s?

ALZHEIMER’S IS...

  • When someone barely has any memory at all
  • one of the most destructive diseases of old age
  • A disease that affects nerve cells causing memory loss
  • Actually three types of Dementia (preclinical, mild cognitive impairment (MCI),and Alzheimer dementia.)

What is the cause for Alzheimer’s?

THE CAUSE IS...

  • ...Scientists are actually not sure
  • Most likely a genetic defect
  • High blood pressure
  • High cholesterol
  • Down syndrome
  • Some kind of head injury
  • People over 60 most likely have Alzheimer’s

What are the affects of Alzheimer’s? And how does it affect the three healths?

SOCIAL HEALTH:

  • They won’t be able to communicate
  • Disease causes them to forget stuff
  • They will forget who people are
  • They will forget how to speak (eventually)

EMOTIONAL HEALTH:

  • They will be emotionally stressed
  • Worried
  • Have a feeling of helplessness
  • Low self esteem

PHYSICAL HEALTH

  • Due to their forgetfulness they will lose control of their body (eventually)
  • Won’t be able to do things themselves

How can you prevent Alzheimer’s?

YOU CAN PREVENT ALZHEIMER’S BY...

  • Exercising
  • Eating healthy
  • Taking certain medications
  • Having an active mind (doing puzzles)
  • There is no way to prevent Alzheimer’s but you can delay it

How can you help?

  • Going to a local retirement home/hospital and donate crossword puzzles
  • If you have a loved one with Alzheimer’s, let them know you’re there for them
  • Spread awareness! Wear purple to show you are part of the cause!
