HISTORY AND ETC...

  • The doctor who discovered Alzheimer's was Dr. Alois Alzheimer
  • The first patient was a women who had died to an unknown mental disorder.
  • This mental illness turned out to be Alzheimer's disease.

OVERVIEW

  • 5.1 million people are affected by Alzheimer's in 2015.
  • There are different type of mental disorders
  • Dementia, Vascular dementia, And mixed are just a few of the other mental disorders.

INCIDENCE

  • This disease affects people from the age of 60 and older mainly but there is young onset Alzheimer's which is where you get Alzheimer's before you are sixty but this is very rare.
  • Also this disease doesn't actually affect a specific ethnic group but is very common in America.

DIAGNOSIS

  • Doctors preform mental health tests to see if you have any symptoms of this disease.
  • SYMPTOMS
  • Progressive memory loss
  • Struggle speaking
  • May have unpredictable behavior.
  • Theses test test for the disease.

CAUSES

  • There is no one for sure cause but scientist say that one of the primary cause is brain infarcts but there is also another way to contract Alzheimer's is there's a 1% chance that you can inherit this disease and this all depends on the number 21 one chromosome.

TREATMENT

  • Some treatments are...
  • Regular exercise- make sure your patient or family member at least walk abound and don't just lay in bed all.
  • Also keep there diet good because the healthier the body the healthier the brain.
  • There is also medicine they can take to slow down the effects(aricept, exelon, razadyne, cognex).
  • There's no cures sadly but following the treatment rules can slow the effects of Alzheimer's.
