Scientific Name/ Relatives

  • Inia Geoffrensis
  • Realatives: Ganges River Dolphin, Indus River Dolphin, and Irrwaddy Dolphin

Anatomic Structures and Unique Features

  • They have molar teeth unlike many other dolphins.
  • They also have a lonf beak like snout with a prominate domed forehead.
  • This spesific species of dolphnin is very out going.

Habitat: Fresh water throughout the Amazon and Orinoco river basin.
Diet: Fish, shrimp, crabs, and occasionally turtles and piranhas

Human Impact

  • Humans used to strongly belive that these animals had magical powers so they did not harm them.
  • Recently they seem to forget about this and only want to compete for fish and fresh water.
