PRESENTATION OUTLINE

ELECTORAL COLLEGE

BECCA AND JAKE

Article II:
Section 1. The executive Power shall be vested in a President of the United States of America. He shall hold his Office during the Term of four Years, and, together with the Vice President, chosen for the same Term, be elected, as follows
Each State shall appoint, in such Manner as the Legislature thereof may direct, a Number of Electors, equal to the whole Number of Senators and Representatives to which the State may be entitled in the Congress: but no Senator or Representative, or Person holding an Office of Trust or Profit under the United States, shall be appointed an Elector.

We would like to amend the Electoral College out of the U.S Constitution.

REASONS WHY

  • The people feel like their vote doesn't count towards the presidental election
  • The less popular canidate may be voted into office
  • The Electoral College basically takes our right to vote
  • The EC is outdated because it was used to keep uninformed masses from making bad decisions

We propose Amendment 28 which removes Article II Section I out of the Constitution where the Electoral College will be eliminated and replaced with popular vote, which will decide the outcome of the future Presidential Elections.

2000 Presidential Election:
In the election between Al Gore and George W. Bush, Gore won the popular vote by 500,000 votes over Bush. Due to the Electoral College, Bush won the election with 5 more ECV's than Gore, and with only one over the 270 requirement.

THE END!
