The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude.
SECTION 2
The Congress shall have the power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.
This amendment was designed to close the last loophole in the establishment of civil rights for black slaves. It ensured that a person's race, color, or prior history as a slave could not be used to ban that person from voting. The Congress passed the amendment on February 26, 1869, and it was ratified on February 3, 1870.

Section 1. The Senate of the United States shall be composed of two Senators from each State, elected by the people thereof, for six years; and each Senator shall have one vote. The electors in each State shall have the qualifications requisite for electors of the most numerous branch of the State legislatures. Section 2. When vacancies happen in the representation of any State in the Senate, the executive authority of each State shall issue writs of election to fill such vacancies: Provided That the legislature of any State may empower the executive thereof to make temporary appointments until the people fill the vacancies by election as the legislature
Section 3. This amendment shall not be so construed as to affect the election or term of any Senator chosen before it becomes valid as part of the Constitution.
Article 4 Sec. 2. Apportionment of members.The number of members who compose the senate and house of representatives shall be prescribed by law. The representation in both houses shall be apportioned equally throughout the different sections of the state in proportion to the population thereof.
Before this amendment, senators were chosen by the government but now the Senators would be chosen by the people. The Amendment was passed by Congress on May 13, 1912, and was ratified on April 8, 1913.

Before this amendment, women were not allowed to vote. It was ratified on August 18, 1920, the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution granted American women the right to vote.
