11th

  • citizens cannot sue states in federal courts. (ratified 1795).

12th

  • 1. about choosing the President and Vice-President. 2. Revised Electoral College 3. With this amendment electors cast a separate vote for president and vice president 4. Guarantees the President & Vice- President from the same party (ratified 1804).

13th

  • Abolished slavery (ratified 1865).

14th

  • Defines citizenship as all persons born or naturalized in United States, includes "equal protection clause", & says no state can deny a person rights without due process of law. (ratified 1868).

15th

  • Declares the right to vote cannot be denied because of race (ratified 1870).

16th

  • Gives Congress the power to impose individual federal income tax (ratified 1913).

17th

  • Provides that United States senators be elected directly by the people (ratified 1913).

18th

  • Prohibits the manufacture, sale, and shipment of alcoholic beverages started Prohibition (ratified 1919).

19th

  • Gives women the right to vote (ratified 1920).

20th

  • AKA Lame Duck Amendment States that the President and Vice-President begin their new terms on January 20 (was March 4th); members of Congress begin on January 3 (ratified 1933).

  • Repealed the 18th amendment Made it legal to drink in this country again (ratified 1933).

  • Limits the President to two terms (up to 10 years) (ratified 1951).

23rd

  • Washington, D.C., is given the right to vote for President and Vice-President (ratified 1961).

  • Banned poll tax & literacy test as a requirement to vote (ratified 1964).

  • Outlines the procedure for presidential succession (ratified 1967).

26th

  • Lowers the voting age to 18 (ratified 1971).
