ULYSSES Grant

  • In office March 9, 1864 – March 4, 1869
  • Grant was a military commander in the Civil War
  • After the civil war grant served 2 terms as president 
  • He wanted to recover from the wars by beginning reconstruction
  • He was known as a "War Hero"

Teddy Rosevelt

  • He led and commanded the 1st U.S. Volunteer Cavalry Regiment.
  •  Roosevelt was a republican leader who served as a governor in New York
  • When William McKinley died he became President
  • His second term was won by a landslide --
  • Fun Fact: The teddy bear was named after Theodore Roosevelt,

Dwight d. Eisenhower

  • He was president from 1953 until 1961 
  • He was a 5 star general in the united states army during WW1
  • He was the first supreme commander of NATO
  • He balanced the budget 3 times
  • He Signed the Federal Aid Highway Act of 1956

  • President from January 20, 1993 – January 20, 2001
  • He had the longest economic expansion in American history
  • He had the most diverse cabinet in American History
  • He believed in no gun laws
  • He deactivated over 1,000 nuclear weapons from the soviets

ULYSSES Grant

  • Signed the Civil Rights Acts of 1870 and 1875 Guaranteed equal rights
  • He fought the KKK - can be considered as a civil rights activist 
  • He tried and supported the 15th amendment to be passed
  • served as commander and chief of the union army during the civil war

Teddy Roosevelt

  • He invited Booker T. Washington to the white house /  discussed racism 
  • publicly Roosevelt gave speeches about discrimination 
  • He was reluctant when it came to enforcing the 15th amendment 
  • successfully got Japanese students to attend school with whites

Dwight D Eisenhower

  • President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed into law the Civil Rights Act of 1957
  • He did not start military desegragation but he planned to finish it
  • He was responsible for Little Rock nine / Arkansas had poor school system
  • MLK wrote Eisenhower a letter to show appreciation after Little Rock 9

Bill clinton

  • sighned Defense Of Marriage Act / left it up to the state to decide
  • pledged to allow all gays to serve openly in the army
  • He was as strong believer in affirmative action
  • Also thought affirmative action should be retired once its done is job

  • Became president after Civil War
  • Ironclad warships where made out of iron that where impenetrable 
  • Civil War submarines where the first submarines ever used in war
  • Now Armies still use these kinds of tecknology but they have upgraded them
  • Double Barrel cannons are also new tecknology at the time of the Civil War

  • He became president after Spanish American War
  • Model 1896 Krag-Jorgenson Rifle / smokeless rifle/ had 5 shot not 1
  • Only some units in the USA army had this technology because it was new
  •  1895 model of the Gatling Gun / closest USA came to having machine gun
  • These new weapons where crucial in the winning of the Spanish American War

  • Jet fighters where new technology that where used to drop bombs on korea
  • Bazooka's where also new technology / used to destroy heavy armor         
  • communist had lots of machine guns and had people willing to win or die
  • jeeps where created  lower and could not be detected
  • They used jeeps as a way of advertsing / teens and older wanted to drive 1

  • Bill Clinton was president during the Cold War
  • Soviets vs. America who could get to the moon / could fly bomb anywhere
  • They where capable of flying to the moon
  • Cold War finally ended because of economic superiority / Decrease in gas $
  • Star wars - tried making intercepting bombs / was almost impossible

ULYSSES Grant

  •  issued public credit act of 1869 / all bondholders baked by gold
  • gained support by bankers and creditors who want there gold for bonds
  • Democrats where considered disloyal for urging payments in greenbacks

  • He attacked  big business / many people called him a socialist----- 
  • He was called a trust buster / He strongly enforced the Sherman Act

  • reduction in military spending / wanted to focus on making a nuclear bomb 
  • He cut  President Trumans budget from 10 Billion to 5 Billion dollars.     
  • Strongly against tax cuts / average american lifestyle increased

  • He created over 20 million jobs
  • Lowest unemployment in 30 years
  • lowest poverty rate in 20 years
  • He paid of $360 Billion dollars of debt

  • All my presidents became president after times of war
  • Each of the presidents I chose served for 2 terms

  • Each president took civil rights a step further
  • Each president had permanent affects on what they stood up for 
  • presidents mostly focused on /  antisemitism or black discrimination
  • 3/4 presidents passsed civil rights acts / Teddy enforced 15th Ammendment  

technology

  •  technology after the wars are all used as other things to improve society 
  •  beginning of presidents was no lightbulb / after war these are things made
  • These are times when we also can prepare and create things to defend

  • After wars there is more many to spend on other things
  • All the presidents can start spending money on industrialization
