The American Cancer Society, the official sponsor of birthdays, was founded in 1913 and was originally called The American Society for the Control of Cancer.

MISSION STATEMENT:
The American Cancer Society (ACS) is the nationwide, community-based, voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer, through research, education, advocacy, and service.
ACS is connected, nationwide, to community hospitals and other organizations.

ACS is funded by donations, fundraisers, grants, etc. They use the money to fund the best sciences to find answers to help save lives.

SERVICES OFFERED:
Informational Services- 24/7 cancer information specialists, website
Day to day help- rides to treatment, lodging, personal care guides, etc.
Emotional support- breast cancer support, Cancer education classes, etc.
