  • Gaining of Puerto Rico, Philippines and Guam
  • Panama Canal ; the annex of Alaska and Hawaii
  • Open door policy with China
This protected any trade with china.

Roosevelt corollary issued this to keep Europe colonizing north and South America.

  • 1867 purchased from russia for 2cents an acre
  • Seward's folly; seward had thought that it was a mistake but soon gold, timber , and oil was found.
  • 49 state in 1959
  • Hawaii was full of sugar and pineapp,e plantations.

  • Queen liliuokalani wanted to keep Hawaii with old traditional ways.
  • In 1893 US planters as well as US marines forced her to give up her powers.

FIGHTING BETWEEN SPAIN AND THE UNITED STATES FOR THE CONTROL OF CUBA .
This was lasted about six months . It ended by the signing of treaty of Paris.

  • Treaty of paris gave the US control of Puerto Rico as well as Cuba, Guam, & the Philippines.
  • Mckinely wanted to restore order and protect American investment
  • Foraker act set up a civil government.
  • Wanted to Americanize the language and political system .

  • 1917 puerto ricans were made citizens with all citizens rights
