  • *European countries could not conquer South America

IMPERIALISM (1900)

IMP. GOOD & BAD

  • GOOD: Expanding Capitalism: US need for more markets to sell goods
  • BAD: Domestic Tensions: US struggles on the inside of country
  • GOOD: Growing Nationalism: More land = More strength = More pride
  • BAD: Social Darwinism: Belief that we were better and should help inferiors
  • GOOD: International Dev.: Competing with Europe to be bigger

CONCLUSION

  • US was imperialistic because:
  • Military strategy to attack from all ends
  • International markets to sell goods outside US
  • Not justified because of how US went about getting land/markets
