PRESENTATION OUTLINE

WW I

World War I was a war that lasted from 1914 to 1918.

WWI was a large conflict that was caused by nationalism, alliances, militarism, and many other factors. WWI birthed many new technologies and ways of war. These included tanks, more advanced aircraft, more efficient firearms, trench warfare, and other things.

America in WW I

The US declared war on the German Empire in 1917 and deployed her troops, organized as the American Expeditionary Forces under command of General Patton, in Europe in 1918. 110,000 Americans died in WW I.

INFLUENTIAL AMERICANS IN WWI

In the late 1800s, an American named Sir Hiram Maxim designed a very reliable belt-fed machine gun and marketed it as the Maxim gun. Militaries soon recognized its potential and many rushed to purchase and adopt them. Russia built licensed copies and called them PM1910s. Germany copied the design and produced the MG08. Vickers Ltd. of Britain bought out Maxim's company, improved his designs, and produced the Vickers Machine Gun.
Maxim's invention was very influential to the war and helped cause trench warfare.
