- Jefferson is asked to write a draft for the Declaration of Independence
- Not only does it include rights to Americans, but for every man.
- Natural rights are stated. "Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness."
DECLARATION IS SIGNED {JULY 4, 1776}
- 12/13 colonies agree with the Declaration
- Congress adopts it, signs it, and sends it to the printers.
- America declares itself Independence from Britain.
