BASIC HISTORY

  • British v.s. Patriots
  • The British fought for the protection of "a good government"
  • The Patriots fought for their independence and a new government
  • This new government would be a government where all men are created equal

WARFARE

  • Gentlemens warfare was how the British fought
  • Guerilla warfare was how the militia fought

THE PATROITS

  • In the movie Benjamin Martin was the leader of the militia
  • However, in history there was Nathanael Greene and Daniel Morgan
  • These two men spit up from each other and were in command to fight the British

THE BRITISH

  • Cornwallis was the general of the Bitish
  • Cornwallis also spit up into two forces
  • The second force was under the command of Banastre Tarleton

BATTLE OF COWPENS

  • Daniel Morgan attacked Tarleton
  • As a result he forced the redcoats to surrender

BATTLE OF GUILFORD

  • Cornwallis attacked Nathaneal Greene
  • Cornwallis won but lossed many men

YORKTOWN

  • As a result of Cornwallis losses he lead his men to
  • York town to recover

FRENCH

  • French Navy finally arrived
  • Met up with American Navy
  • Sailed to Yorktown
  • To attack British

CORNWALLIS SURRENDERS

  • Surrounded by American forces and both Navies
  • Cornwallis surrenders

TREATY OF PARIS

  • 1782 peace treaty
  • Between United states, Great Britan, France, and Spain
  • U.S. Representatives were John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, and John Jay
  • 1st order of business was to make sure the British recognize American Independence

BOUNDRIES

  • Treaty of Paris said the U.S. was an independent country
  • AND set the United States boundries
