The southern campaign started because the British needed more people on their side to win the war, reason for that is because of little progress in the north. So in the early 1778 British turned their attention to the south. The reason why the British turn their attention is because they believed that gaining control of the southern colonies would increase their chances in winning the war. The southern colonies produced profitable items that the British believe would help their economy and army.
The siege of Charleston or battle of Charleston was on April 2, 1780 where the British sieged meaning a military enemy like Britain surrounds the town and cuts off supplies and continuously attacks and Britain did this for 6 weeks.
Andrew Pickens was captured during the battle of Charleston.
