American Romanticism was
a movement in literature, art, religion, and politics from the eighteenth to nineteenth century.
CHARACTERISTICS OF ROMANTICISM
- Poetry is seen as the highest expression of imagination
- Views feelings as more important than reason
- Is inspired by myth, legend, and folk culture
- Values the individual freedom of the character
- Is drawn to youthful innocence as to educated sophistication
