American Romanticism was
a movement in literature, art, religion, and politics from the eighteenth to nineteenth century.

CHARACTERISTICS OF ROMANTICISM

  • Poetry is seen as the highest expression of imagination
  • Views feelings as more important than reason
  • Is inspired by myth, legend, and folk culture
  • Values the individual freedom of the character
  • Is drawn to youthful innocence as to educated sophistication
