Westward Expansion

  • After the War of 1812 is when Amercia strived to take over territory from the West.
  • After the war people felt that the U.S was truly a place where people can have opportunity.
  • The United States doubled in size because of the Louisiana Purchase.
  • President Thomas Jefferson bought land from the French Government with $15 million
  • America's territory from the Mississippi River to the Rocky Mountains, and Canada to New Orleans

MANIFEST DESTINY

  • In the mid 19th century more than 7million Americans moved out west.
  • The main goal was to make remake the West for a nice image for America.
  • People moved to live in the trans-Appalachian West for opportunity.

LITERATURE

  • From the early 1800s to early 1900s literature began to develop more.
  • American literature was developing more as the country was expanding
  • Literature during the Westward Movement represented civilization in the U.S literary writers that came to play.
  • American writers had literature that was in relation with English works.
  • Writers wrote their works on the future of America, its issues on slavery, states rights, taxes, and other matters.
