AMISH

THE Amish are a conservative Protestant group that origanted in Europe in 1693

The total number of Amish is about 180,000 half of whom are under the age of 18 years old.

They place the welfare of the community above,individual rights and choices and believe that salvation comes from obedient, living in the community of faith.

Amish wemen wear plain long dresses, bonnets, and shawls, Amish men wear full breads and broad-brimmed hats.

• Most amish speak a pennsylvania german dialect, as well as english.
• Amish travel by horses and buggy.
• Almost all amish children attend one-or two-room schools

The Amish must choose to be baptized. About nine out of ten request baptism usually between the ages of 19 and 21 years old.

They argued that only adults who had voluntarily decided to follow Christ

The Amish migrated to the Americas in the mid-1700's and again in the 1800's.
