WHAT IS IT?

  • a synthetic steroid hormone that resembles testosterone in promoting the growth of muscle. Such hormones are used medicinally to treat some forms of weight loss and (illegally) by some athletes and others to enhance physical performance.

USES

  • To help patients gain weight after a severe illness, injury, or continuing infection.
  • To treat certain types of anemia.
  • To treat certain kinds of breast cancer in some women
  • Improve as an athlete
  • For bigger muscles

EFFECTS ON BODY

  • high blood pressure
  • enlarged heart
  • liver desease, even cancer
  • kidney problems or failure
  • severe acne

MALES

  • Breast growth and shrinking of testicles
  • Low sperm count/infertility (unable to have children
  • Increased risk for prostate cancer

FEMALES

  • Voice deepening
  • Growth of facial hair
  • Male-pattern baldness
  • Changes in or end of menstrual cycle/getting your period
  • Enlargement of clitoris

SIDE EFFECTS

  • Severe acne, oily skin and hair.
