PRESENTATION OUTLINE
1.
ATHLETES FOOT
Infection of the feet caused by fungus
2.
BOILS AND CARBUNCLES
pus-filled bumps that form under your skin when bacteria infect and inflame one or more of your hair follicles
3.
COLD SORES
Cold sores, which are small and somewhat painful blisters
4.
DERMATITIS
Inflammation of the skin
5.
IMPETIGO
Highly contagious skin infection that mainly affects infants and children
6.
PSORIASIS
common skin condition that changes the life cycle of skin cells
7.
1ST DEGREE BURNS
injury that affects the first layer of your skin. First-degree burns are one of the mildest forms of skin injuries.
Doesnt require medical treatment
8.
2ND DEGREE BURNS
More serious because the damage extends beyond the top layer of skin
This type of extensive damage causes the skin to blister, become extremely red and sore
9.
3RD DEGREE BURNS
They cause the most damage, extending through every layer of skin.
The damage can even reach the bloodstream, major organs, and bones, can lead to death.
10.
BASAL CELL CARCINOMA
How do you get it: sun exposure or tanning bed
You can get it at a younger age if you're exposed to a lot of sun
What is it: malignant tumor of the basal cell layer of the epidermis
Usually grows very slowly and often doesn't show up for many years
11.
CONT.
What it does: moles sit on the skin and overtime they can raise change color, or
get bigger.
Only in exceedingly rare cases can spread to other parts of the body
12.
SQUAMOUS CELL CARCINOMA
How you get it: prolonged exposure to UV radiation
What is it: malignant tumor in the squamous epithelial cells in the epidermis
Form of skin cancer that develops in the thin, flat squamous cells
13.
CONT.
What it does: it can grow large and cause serious complications
When the DNA that controls the cells' growth is damaged, it causes an overgrowth and buildup of skin cells
14.
MALIGNANT MELANOMA
How you get it: Family history of melanoma or skin cancer
Family history of irregular, prominent moles
What is it: neoplasm of melanocytes or a neoplasm of the cells that develop from melanocytes
Although it was once considered uncommon, it has increased dramatically over the decades
15.
CONT.
What it does:It develops in the cells that give the skin its color and has a very high tendency to spread
The cure rates depend greatly on the stage of melanoma by the time of detection
16.
THE ABCD RULES
What is it A- Asymmetry
B- Borders
C- Color
D- Diameter
17.
CONT.
If it is bigger than 1/4 go get it checked out
