India is protected by several large barriers that make invasions difficult
Two Major Rivers in Northern India were important for the growth of Civilizations (Harrapa and Mojenjo-Daro)
Humans were able to travel through Mountain Passes in the Hindu Kush to settle in the region
However, the Aryans were also able to use these passes to invade the settled regions
Aryans: An aggressive people that invaded India around 1500 B.C.E.
The Aryans had an enormous impact on the culture of India

First, they institute the Caste System
The Caste System: System that divides Hindus into "classes" that influence all social interactions and occupations
The Caste system will eventually become intertwined with the predominant religion: Hinduism
The Aryans are also believed to have brought Hinduism to India
There is no specific founder for Hinduism; it is a combination of religion and Indian culture that has evolved for thousands of years
Hinduism contains many gods (Polytheistic), although many Hindus believe they are really Monotheistic
Sacred Texts: (many) but the most important are the Vedas, Upanishads, and the Bhagavad Gita
These texts are written in Sanskrit; also brought by the Aryans
