BUDDHISM

  • Was founded by Siddhartha Gautama
  • Created in ancient India

  • Believed that suffering was caused by desire
  • They also believed in reincarnation
  • They did not believe in any gods (deities)
  • Buddhism was based on the four Noble Truths
  • It was also based on the Eightfold Path

DIFFUSION

  • Buddhism spread from India to Southeast Asia
  • It also spread all over east Asia
  • It spread especially during the Maurya Empire

CONFUCIANISM

  • Was founded by Kung Fu-Tzu
  • Was created in Ancient China

PRINCIPLES

  • It is not a religion it is a philosophy
  • It deals with the moral character of individuals
  • The primary goals are order, harmony, peace, and reflection
  • There are 5 relationships in this philosophy here are 3 main ones
  • Parent/ child, husband/ wife, older sibling/ younger sibling,

DIFFUSION

  • This philosophy spread from China to Korea
  • It also spread to Japan
  • This philosophy was created in the Zhou dynasty

TAOISM

  • Founded by Lao- Tse
  • Created in ancient China

PRINCIPLES

  • Tao means the way(or the path)
  • It is a series of philosophical teachings that focus on achieving balance
  • Taoism places great emphasis on nature as an example of balance
  • They created the Yin/Yang
  • The Yin/Yang was a sight of harmony

DIFFUSION

  • Spread primarily to the areas immediately surrounding China
  • It has been incorporated into teachings and beliefs of other philosophies
  • Those beliefs include Buddhism and Shintoism
