Monarchy

  • Ruled by a king
  • King Made laws and decisions
  • Mycanae in 2000 BC

CITIZENS OF MONARCHY

  • Didn't like monarchy
  • Had no say
  • Hostile attitude
  • Rebellion was inevitable

Aristocracy

  • Noble, landowning families ruled
  • Families made decisions and laws
  • Athens prior to 594 BC

Response to Aristocracy

  • Common people varied in opinion
  • Wealthy Merchants and Artisans disliked it
  • They were the ones who probably started an uprise

Oligarchy

  • Few powerful people ruled
  • These people created laws
  • Also made decisions

Oligarchy's Citizens

  • The common people didn't mind it
  • The poor people disliked it
  • The poor were the most likely to revolt

Tyranny

  • Ruled by a single man
  • Man gained power by support of the poor
  • Corinth in the sixth century

Tyranny's response

  • The poor and common people liked tyranny
  • They looked up to the tyrant
  • Richer people did not like it
  • They wanted to start a revolution

Democracy

  • Ruled by the people
  • Laws voted upon by the people
  • Decisions made by 18 year old landowning males
  • Athens in 500 BC.

THE PEOPLE OF DEMOCRACY

  • People loved Democracy
  • They contributed in it
  • Not a lot of people disliked it
  • People felt like they had an obligation
  • The obligation was to vote upon things
