  • During the Middle Ages, the Japanese borrowed artistic ideas from Korea and China.
  • During Ad 500s the Japanese used the same writing system as China

  • Japan's oldest poetry was the Tanka
  • Yayoi where one of the first people in Japan and where in clans

  • About ad 600 a Yamato Prince named Shotoku who took charge of Japan on behalf of Empress Suiko, his aunt
  • During ad 500 a clan called the Yamato ruled most of Japan because of their strength

RELIGON

  • It hade Shinto which was a religion that hade an idea called animism, which meant that they believed all natural things are alive

  • Buddhism came from India but some Japanese people believed in it
  • Buddhism then hade many different sects

  • Most of Japan's wealth came from the work of the farmers who lived there
  • A woman was expected to obey their father, husband and even their son
  • In early Japan around the time Prince Shotoku was in command, wealthy women where at the top of the social hierarchy

FAMOUS PEOPLE

  • Prince Shotoku was born in the Soga Family which was powerful was the second son of the emperor Yomei. Shotoku's real name is Umayado Murasaki Shikibu was one of the first modern novelists
