Geography
My empire is Ancient Maya and its capital city is Tikal. The modern day countries where Ancient Maya was located were part of present-day southern Mexico, Belize, most of Guatemala, and parts of Honduras and El Salvador. The Longitude is 90 degrees West and the Latitude is 20 degrees North.

the Olmec

  • The Maya built their civilization in part on ideas they thought from people called the Olmec.
  • Those people lived in the jungle areas on the east coast of Mexico.
  • The Olmec civilization was based on Agriculture.
  • Their civilization reached it's peak between 1200 and 500 B.C.E.

Pok-A-Tok

  • Pok-a-tok is a game played by the Mayans played with a rubber ball.
  • It was held for religious significances.
  • It is a combination of soccer and basketball.
  • Losing team members were sometimes sacrificed to Mayan gods.
  • The game was played with your elbows, wrists and hips.

Written Language
The mayans written language was used by hieroglyphics. Hieroglyphics was the writing system used by the Mayan civilization of Mesoamerica.

Government
The Mayans government was ruled by kings and priests. It was a hierarchical government. The Mayan government was in Mesoamerica, which is a region and cultural area in the americas. It stretches from Central Mexico to Belize.

My artifact

My most important fact is the Mayan Calendar, it was created on 3,114 B.C.E. I think this is important to social studies because we talked about the Gregorian Calendar, this is a calendar also so I'm connecting this to the Gregorian Calendar.
