Location:

  • South America
  • All along Venezuel, Chile, Ecuador, peru, and Bolivia, to the end of South American’s tip

Geologic History

  • Naza Plate and the Brazilian Shield created the mountain structure
  • Magma was pushed upwards, and formed most of the volcanic range
  • plate tectonics are caused by it
  • Caused also by subduction of oceanic crust beneath the South American Plate

uniformitarianism

  • The Andes Mountains is an example of uniformitarianism
  • It took 18-25 million years to get the way it is now
  • It begin to build up 140 million years ago

  • The Andes Mountains was a constructive process
  • It is a constructive process because the ground uplifted and formed mountains

Fun Fact!

  • potatoes and tomatoes originated both in the Andes Mountains
