It tells a great and enduring story of how land comprising both the North and South parishes of Andover was purchased from Cutshamachie

The Sagamore Native Americans of Massachusetts sold the land to the British May 6, 1646.

COAT

The seal pictures a Native American pointing and gazing out over the river and Town below holding the coat and six pounds.

In 1895 John E Whiting designed a porcelain pin depicting the sale of the land that was to become Andover for the town's 250th anniversary

aNDOVER OFFICALLY ADOPTED THE TOWN SEAL DURING

AN ANNUAL MEETING ON MARCH 5, 1900.
