What is it?

  • An anesthesiologist is a physician trained in anesthesia and perioperative medicine.
  • Thy are part of the pain relief branch of medicine

Education

  • One must first receive a bachelors of science before they can make anesthesiology their major
  • The next step is to begin a 4-5 year program in which they will study anesthesiology as well as work as a resident at a hospital or other medical institution, you just then complete the certifying examinations of the royal college of physicians and surgeons Canada to become Liscensed

SAlary

  • The salary for an anesthesiologist in Canada varies, depending on what province one intends to work in
  • The lowest average salary for an anesthetist is around $50,000 dollars annually. The median salary is $124,000 dollars annually, and the highest salary is around $355,000 dollars annually

Job prospects

  • There are many job opportunities for an anesthetist as it is an in-demand job
  • The employment growth is not super high due to the fact that it takes awhile to become an anesthetist so there is little worry of the field becoming oversaturated
  • This also means that it may be easier to find a good job with a great salary in a quicker time after you complete your schooling

  • The path to becoming an anesthetist is a long and arduous process as it involves many years of school which is then followed by 4 years working as a resident in a hospital.
  • The rewards of this process are bountiful yet they involve a lot of work and many years of training and schooling which may be seen as a deficit or drawback of the occupation for some people.
