  • Raised segregated neighbourhood; bombings by KKK; nicknamed "Dynamite Hill'
  • Grandma instilled strong African-American history

UCLA

  • Professor of Philosophy
  • Strong political ties with Communist Party
  • Ronald Regan urged UCLA Board to fire Angela
  • Took it to court; regained position

Soledad Brothers

  • 3 black men accused of killing white prison guard; John Vincent Miller
  • 3 days prior killed 3 black prisoners; no warning shots fired

  • Jury exonerated Miller; "justifiable homicide"
