It rises just once a year,in mid-winter .
For many Maori people it signals the start of a new year. Matariki literally means ''eye of god'' or ''little eyes''.

An adventurous young man called Mitai lives with his seven handsome brothers in the village of Makety. He watches his brothers become tricked by seven beautiful women and under there spell the brothers can no longer eat , look after themselves, work in their garden or hunt.

Mitai shows his broths that their wives are evil spirits, and banish them into space. They can only be seen fair short time, once a year.
