ANIMAL BREEDS

BEEF

  • Red Angus
  • Red, with a hint of orange and brown
  • Typically used for it's meat
  • The breed is very popular in Australia
  • The American Aberdeen Angus Herdbook stopped registering them in the year 1917
  • Some cattlemen believed them to have higher quality meat around the time of the 1940s.

PIGS

  • Berkshire
  • Black, with a hint of white
  • Mainly used for its meat
  • The pig is listed as vulnerable, because fewer than 300 sows of it exist
  • The pig is bred in Japan in a place named Kagoshima Prefecture
  • It's meat is pink hued and is marbled

SHEEP

  • Corriedale
  • White and grey
  • Used for both meat and wool
  • They were bred in Australia and New Zealand after breeding Merino and Lincoln sheep
  • Th breed is extremely popular in Uruguay
  • They are capable of lasting through various different climates, especially in areas with lower rainfall

HORSE

  • Percheron
  • Usually grey or black
  • Breeding
  • During World War I, an embargo was placed on the exportation of them from France to the US
  • Their ideal height is between 61-72 inches, and their ideal weight is between 1,100-1,2600 pounds
  • They were first discovered at the Huisne River Valley in France

CHICKEN

  • Australorp
  • Blackish blue or white
  • Egg laying
  • The original stock used to create them was imported to Australia from England
  • No ones knows the true origin of the bizarre name for the breed
  • The breed actually broke the record for eggs laid during the 1920s
