ANIMAL EXPERIMENTATION

A conservative estimate of animals killed annually world-wide for research purposes is 50-100 million. Precise figures cannot be calculated since only a small number of nations report. Animals excluded from reporting include rats, mice, birds, horses, and farm animals. They are also excluded from the Animal Welfare Act of 1976 and 2002.

ANIMAL WELFARE ACT

MINIMUM STANDARDS
The Animal Welfare Act (1966) set minimum standards for the handling of dogs, cats, nonhuman primates, rabbits, hamsters and guinea pigs. But 95% of animals used in lab research are rats! mice! and birds, all of which the AWA does not cover.

EQUALITY

OF SUFFERING
"If a being suffers there can be no moral justification for refusing to take that suffering into consideration. No matter what the nature of the being, the principle of equality requires that it's suffering be counted equally with the like suffering--insofar as rough comparisons can be made--of any other being." -- Peter Singer
