PRESENTATION OUTLINE

BOXER

STUART BODIN

BOXER'S CONTRIBUTION

  • Squeal made excellent speeches on the joy of service and the dignity of labour, but the other animals found more inspiration in Boxer's strength and his never-failing cry of "I will work harder!" (p.74)

This quote shows how important Boxer was to the farm. Boxer had the most effect on the animals because he was so passionate about working and rebuilding the windmill. Without Boxer's mottos and his attitude Napoleon may have not been as successful in the farm.

Boxer represents the working class in the Russian revolution and helped develop the Soviet Union.

  • Boxer doesn't stand for a particular person: he's a symbol for all of the Russian working class (proletariat). And it's not a very flattering portrayal. Orwell might be a socialist, but he's not exactly pro-proletariat: he doesn't seem to have much respect for the average working stiff's intelligence. In fact, it sounds like he holds the proletariat partly responsible for helping Stalin come to power. Boxer may be hardworking and friendly, but the pigs could never have come to power without his strength—and his stupidity.
