PRESENTATION OUTLINE

SNOWBALL TROTSKY

TAYLOR LOGAN

SNOWBALL

  • portrays Leon Trotsky
  • introduced the seven commandments and animalism (communism)
  • relies on his own mindset to lead the farm
  • accepts the superiority of pigs over other animals
  • starts the plans for the farm's big windmill project

Just as how Leon Trotsky led the Red Army to victory in the Russian Civil War, Snowball led the animals to victory in the Battle of Cowshed. He also had the goal to spread Animalism around the world, Trotsky had the same goal with Communism. Lastly, Trotsky (Snowball) was kicked from the Communist party by Stalin (Napoleon) and banished from Russia (Animal Farm).

A major theme in Animal Farm is the corruption of leaders in the Soviet Union. Snowball is the idealistic figure which is taken down by Napoleon, the figure with power.

"The flag was green, Snowball explained, to represent the green fields of England, while the hoof and horn signified the future Republic of the Animals which would arise when the hum an race had been finally overthrown." (Orwell, 30-31)

In this passage, Snowball shows his dream to spread Animalism through England with their flag.

"But I did mean it [the book] to have a wider application in so much as I meant that that kind of revolution can only lead to a change of masters." (Orwell, historytoday.com)
