  • The journey lasted for six months
  • Wagon space was very limited.
  • We left a lot of things we had behind.
  • We covered about 2,000 miles.

TRAIL CONDITIONS

  • There was a lot of disease.
  • People drowned crossing rivers.
  • There were buffalo stampedes.
  • People froze to death.
  • The trail was littered.

WHAT WE DID.

  • We were expected to do the work we did back home.
  • We had to watch children.
  • Wash the clothes.
  • Find and prepare the food.

BIDDY MASON

  • Biddy mason was a free slave and lived in California.
  • Her owner wanted to bring her back to Texas.
  • California is a free state, Texas is for slavery.
  • She went to court and won the right to stay.

AFTER WE MOVED WEST.

WE STARTED NEW INDUSTRIES SUCH AS SCHOOL.
