We covered about 2,000 miles.

TRAIL CONDITIONS
There was a lot of disease.
People drowned crossing rivers.
There were buffalo stampedes.
People froze to death.

We were expected to do the work we did back home.
We had to watch children.
Wash the clothes.
Find and prepare the food.

BIDDY MASON
Biddy mason was a free slave and lived in California.
Her owner wanted to bring her back to Texas.
California is a free state, Texas is for slavery.
She went to court and won the right to stay.
