SYNOPSIS

  • Kristen Vigard was the first actress to play the title role of Annie;
  • however, she was replaced by Andrea McArdle after only one week because the
  • producers thought she was too “sweet” to play the street-smart orphan.

  • By the time the original Broadway production of Annie closed,
  • it had been performed a total of 2,377 times, setting a record for the longest running show at
  • the Alvin Theatre (now the Neil Simon Theatre). It was surpassed by Hairspray in 2009.
