DEFINITION

  • a lack or loss of appetite for food (as a medical condition). an emotional disorder characterized by an obsessive desire to lose weight by refusing to eat.
  • noun: anorexia nervosa; plural noun: anorexia nervosas

FACTS

  • It's very common, there are over 200,000 cases per year
  • It's treatable
  • You can usually tell if you have it (self diagnosable)
  • All ages and genders are affected, but it's more common in teens and females

PEOPLE MAY EXPERIENCE:

  • Dizzyness
  • Fainting
  • Fatigue
  • Low blood pressure
  • Feeling apprehensive, anxious, guilty, and impulsive
  • Underweightness and (extreme)weight loss, and thinness.
  • Bruising, dry hair, dry skin
  • Dehydration

  • Medical treatment may be needed for weight restoration.
  • Therapy can help too, with behavioral changes and boosting self esteem.
