What is a bully?
A bully is a person who targets someone who is smaller or weaker and hurts them with words or physical actions. There is an imbalance of power between a bully and their victim.

What types of bullying exists?

  • Cyberbullying
  • Physical bullying
  • Verbal bullying
  • Emotional bullying
  • Sexual bullying

Signs of a bully:

  • Mean or aggressive towards a person.
  • Holds power over another person.
  • Unaffected by the other person's efforts.

Signs of a victim:

  • Doesn't want to go to school.
  • Becomes withdrawn or anxious.
  • Suddenly begins to do poorly in school.
  • Personal items are "missing".
  • Unexplained bruises or cuts.

Consequences of bullying

  • Depression
  • Loss of self-esteem
  • Threatened or attempted suicide
  • Feeling scared
  • Poor academic achievement

Ways to prevent/respond to bullying

  • Teacher attention and praise
  • Writing a set of rules together
  • Talk about bullying
  • Positive behavior contract
  • Read stories about bullying
