Anti-Drug use

By: Erinn Marica

Reasons teens use drugs.

  • Family History of ddiction.
  • Mental Health Disorder.
  • Peer Pressure.
  • Socially.
  • Satisfy Their Curiosity.

Counter Arguments #1

  • Parents influence all choices their parents make so when a child observes their parents using drugs they assume it is okay too. Studies show however that parents who talk to their kids about drugs have children that are more than two times more going to avoid drugs.

Counter Argument #2

  • Many teenagers assume that drugs can make their pain go away or give them a sense of security but the opposite is more accurate. Teenagers who use un-prescribed or too much drugs to combat mental health have a higher risk of becoming addicted than others.
(continue form slide).....And may only worsen their condition and give them withdrawal symptoms as well as suicidal ideals which will not make recovery or daily life easier.

Counter Argument #3

  • In a teens life, their friend's opinions will matter more to them then that of a family member so, when a friend pressures a teen to try a drug, most cases they will feel obliged to accept, assume nothing is wrong, or have an immediate adrenaline rush that will crush all logical judgement of the situation.
(From slide).........Furthermore, going through with these drugs will ensure the opposite of a "harmless try" and can result in overdosing, permanent health problems, serious addiction and countless more obstacles that can entirely throw off a person's life.

Counter Argument #4

  • Another reason teenagers would use drugs is for social reasons. All teenagers go through social problems like feeling unwanted or anxious around people. So when they see everyone hanging out together while using drugs, most teens are bound to join in just to "fit in." However, using drugs socially can become a frequent occurrence depending on the people.
(Continued from slide)..........And near constant use of these substances are bound to lead to addiction. Once addiction has taken over, many people find that their mind and body seem to need drugs in order to properly function. When they try to quit they might experience withdrawal symptoms which will give them cravings for more of that drug and the cycle will continue. Quickly, using drugs turns from a social event to daily needs like proper meals and a roof over your head. It's just better to avoid those who consider overdosing a friendly bonding activity.

Counter Argument #5

  • Seeing as the teenage years of one's life are the years where they learn the most about the world, it is guaranteed that they will hear about drugs quite frequently. People trying to sell them using media or word of mouth about its benefits and enjoyments.
(From slide)....When the opportunity comes, energy will consume their thoughts and they will get the chance they have been waiting for; to explore a new terrain. Depending on the drug, certain effects like numbing to the brain will make teenagers susceptible to trying drugs again and again to satisfy this new desire. Predictably, this will lead to addiction which has deadly affects on people and other side effects of said drug will consume this person.

Conclusion

  • In conclusion, many modern and old factors can lead to substance abuse and addiction but it is always the safer and smarter option to just walk away and drop the ideas about experimenting with drugs.
