Be drug free - Say no to drugs

Anti-Drug Use Message

Why Teens Use Drugs

  • Peer Pressure: Teens have the desire to fit in, so they are more vulnerable to peer pressure. However, teens should learn to say no and practice refusal techniques as drugs are detrimental to your well being and do not make you "look cool."

Self Medication

  • Many teens in today's society suffer from mental illnesses such as depression, anxiety, and trauma. As a result, they use drugs as a tool for comfort and to "numb" the pain. However, using drugs only temporarily suppress the pain, and seeking professional help is a much better alternative.

Grief

  • After experiencing the sudden loss of a friend or loved one, a person may turn to drugs as a way to find relief and comfort. However, rather than turning to drugs, one should seek professional counseling to handle grief and other negative emotions.

Stress

  • Stress is an emotion that affects millions of people. When a person feels intense stress or anxiousness, they may resort to drugs to reduce stress. However, there are much better ways to reduce stress such as exercise, meditation, a healthy diet, etc. Using drugs is not only dangerous, but will also only increase feelings of stress and anxiety.

Boredom/Curiosity

  • Some people may use drugs just for the "thrill" of it. They may also become curious, and use drugs to escape from their boredom and isolation. However, breaking out of addiction isn't easy, and using drugs could even land you in jail. It is simply not worth using drugs for the thrill.
