"I will bury the brother I love" In the beginning of the prologue of Antigone Ismene and Antigone are in an argument about whether or not they should bury their brother. One of their brothers were given a proper burial, this being the one that their uncle sided with. The other was left without any burial and was thought to be stuck in purgatory until being buried. This causes a lot of tension between the sisters because burying their brother is illegal.
"Polynieces--- out there-- someone,---- new dust on the slimy flesh--- someone has given it burial that way,and Gone..." In scene 1 the sentry notifies Creon that Polynieces has been buried. When Creon hears this he becomes very confused and angered with the gods. Creon's law had been broke, the body was buried. He decides that the person who has broken the law will be stoned to death in thr coutyard.
" I dared. It was not gods proclamation" Antigone admits to burying the body of her dead brothers. Her sister Ismene tries to also take blame for being involved because she now agrees with her sister. Creon is very confused so sends both girls away to decide what he wants to do.
"Then she must die,--- but her death will cause another" Creon tells his son Haimon that he plans to kill Antigone. Haimon tells his father that if she dies he will kill himself as well. Creon fearing the death of his son decides to not kill Antigone, instead lock her in a cave far away. Her death will be up to the gods now and her will to live.
"Good-by to the sun shines for me no longer; Now sleepy death" Antigone is lead to the cave she will spend life until death in. This is equal to a death sentence for her. Creon puts her life in the hands of the gods so his son will still live.
"They are dead. The living are guilt of their deaths" In the 5th scene Creon is given a prophecy that brings him to change his mind about Antigone. Creon first goes to bury Polyneices, and then to go get Antigone. When he finally gets to the cave where Antigone is she has committed suicide. Along with her death his son has committed suicide because of her. Then to top everything off Creon's wife also commits suicide. The story comes to a conclusion with Choragoes saying that with time men grow old.
