"Ismene, I am going to bury him. Will you come?" (Sophocles 2) Antigone wants to bury her brother, Polyneices, in order for him to have his soul go to the underworld. Although, the king, her uncle Creon, promised that anybody who buried him would be put to death. Antigone defies the king and buries him anyway.

Well, then; the dead man, Polyneices, out there, someone, new dust on his slimy flesh! Someone has given it burial that way and gone." (Sophocles 8) A sentry is sent to Creon to tell him that somebody buried Polyneices. Creon becomes furious and accuses the sentry of being bribed. The sentry denies the accusation and leaves.

"But this is Antigone! Why have you brought her here?'She was burying him , I tell you!" (Sophocles 12) The sentry came back to tell Creon that Antigone was the one who buried the body. Antigone denies nothing and her and her sister are sent of to be held until their punishment is decided.

"I beg you, do not be unchangeable. Do not believe that you alone can be right." (Sophocles 21) Haiman, Creon's son tells him that the entire city likes Antigone to try to sway him away from punishing her. Creon is stubborn and will not change his mind. He thinks Haiman is just a young fool.

"Good-by to the sun that shines for me no longer; Now sleepy death." (Sophocles 25) Antigone is lead to the cave where she will eventually die.

"All true, all true, and more than I can bear! O my wife, my son!" (Sophocles 38) Theiresias told Creon a prophecy that finally changed his mind. Creon buried Polyneices and then went to set Antigone free, but it was too late. Antigone had already killed herself and this caused Creon's son, Haimon, to kill himself because she was his fiance. To top it all off, Creon's wife then killed herself.
