PRESENTATION OUTLINE

ANTIGONE

by Leah Rogge

"No one shall bury him, no one shall bury him, But this body must lie in the fields..." (sophocles 2) in the prologue of the story Antigone, the king Creon shares his law to the people that no one may bury Polyneices or they will suffer punishment.

"The dead man...Someone has given it burial that way..."(Sophocles 8) In this part of the story Antigone gives her brother Polyneices a burial and defies her king; and her uncles. Although Antigone is family her uncle has no choice but to punish her for her crime.

"And if she lives or dies, That's her affair, not ours; our hands are clean"(Sophocles 27) In the story Antigone the king Creon punishes his niece and sends her off to a cave. Because she is family he did not want to kill Antigone, so he put her in a cave so her blood would not be on his hands.

"They are dead. The living are guilt of their death"(Sophocles 35) Creon changes his ways and decides to release Antigone. Although when the messenger comes back Antigone had hung herself and Creons son, fiance to Antigone, kills himself as well. Because of Creons actions he looses his niece and his son.

"The queen is dead."(Sophocles 39) Because Creon has brought these two young kids death the queen can not handle the news. The queen cursed her husband in her final words before she drove a knife through her chest.

  • In the end Creon would end up ultimately killing his wife, niece, and son. One should not hold a grudge and not be stubborn to those you love.
