History of anzac day

  • ANZAC Day is celebrate on 25th of April
  • The ANZAC's landed in Gallipoli to capture the Dardanelles
  • The ANZAC's landed in ANZAC Cove
  • They fought for 9 months
  • New Zealand, Australia, Britian and France fought against the Turkish 

History Continued...

  • 120'000 soldiers died in the 9 months
  • ANZAC was first marked n 1916
  • ANZAC stands for Australia and Army Corps
  • ANZAC Day symbols include Poppys, crosses and wreathes

FLANDERS FIELD

  • The poppy is a symbol of war remembrance 
  • Flanders and red poppy is linked with battlefield deaths
  • It was the first plant to grow in the mud
  • Flanders Field was the name given to WW1 battlefield
  • This poem was made by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae

The Ode

The Ode was written by Laurence Binyon in 1914

Why we celebrate anzac day

  • to  remember all the soldiers that lost their life in the battle 
  • In honours to all the soldiers that came back safely
  • people can pay their respect to the lost of their family members
  • time to think about soldiers serving over seas  
  • to be proud of our country's history  

ANZAC DAY IS IMPORTANT BECAUSE...
it is a special time to remember all the brave soldiers who fought for new Zealand,or who are still serving our country in the army navy or air force
