History of ANZAC

• ANZAC stands for Australia New Zealand Army Corps
• On the 25th of April the ANZAC soldiers landed in Gallipoli 
• The cove where the ANZACs landed was them named ANAC cove
• They were fighting with the Turkish soldiers
• The soldiers fought for nine months and over 120,000 soldiers died

• The ANZACs were trying to capture the Dardinelles
• The first ANZAC day was on the 25th of April 1916
• The French and British were also fighting against the Turkish
• ANZAC day symbols include poppies, crosses and wreathes
• ANZAC day is very important to New Zealand and Australia

• The poppy is a symbol of war rememberance
• Flanders or red poppies is linked to battlefield deths
• It was the first plant to grow in mud
• Flanders Field is the name of all WW1 battlefields

Why do we celebrate Anzac

• To remember all the soldiers that lost their lives in Gallipoi
• It also honours the soldiers that returned safely 
• people can pay their respects to family members that died in war
• Time to think about soldiers still serving overseas
• To be proud of our country's history
