This is the greatest question ever asked by a man named Pontius Pilate in 30A.D. When Pilate asks this question to Jesus he sarcastically walks away from the single greatest authority on this powerful question.
Truth is philosophical terms is surprisingly difficult to define because any moment a definition is reached you can simply ask the question “is that true?” Which shows a deficiency in that definition.
In the year 1078 Anselm argued that if it is possible that God exist, then it logically follows that God does exist. This argument is known as the ontological argument for Gods existence.
LOVE – We know what it means to be loved and when we are not loved. Whether by a friend, parent or spouse even if we are selves have not felt these things we have the knowledge of what the ideal is.
The love for the enemy. Those who harm or persecute you. This is the love that can only come from God and a theistic worldview because it lays the foundation for unconditional love.
When we are harmed or a wrong has been done to us we go to someone who can make it right. Whether a police office, judge, teacher or a parent. We all desire fairness that is based on some standard of justice. It is in grained in our soul to desire this. We have this desire because we are created in the image of our creator who also has the need for justice
Although not everyone believes in an objective moral truth. We all know if someone misleads, pains or betrays us, that it is wrong. Whether we believe in objective truths in those moments doesn’t matter because we have felt that injustice
Evil is the result of Gods love being absent in someone’s heart. Sadly, some worldviews breed this result.
We are offered forgiveness of our sin and only Jesus can forgive our sin because as our Creator our offense was against Him. Yet on the cross, the exchange of His righteousness for our evil degeneracy is displayed for the salvation of our souls. There is no greater act, and no greater symbol that meets our need for forgiveness that the cross of Calvary.
Evil - In the human heart that he would murder a person without fault and sin
Love – In the divine heart of the Father who gave his son for us. (John 3:16)
Forgiveness – In the gracious heart of Jesus that He would take a punishment that was not His.
Justice – In the heart of the law that it would be satisfied. With out the blood of Jesus there is no remission for sin and there is no hope for the human condition. (2 Cor 5:21)
