SIZE + LENGTH

  • 1,600 miles long
  • Highest peak is Mount Mitchell at 6,684 ft.

  • Appalachian Trail starts from Springer Mountain Georgia to Mount Katahdin in Maine.
  • Majority of mountains have gradual in incline or gently-sloping hills.
  • very few passes through them, creating a barrier to the early westward expansion
