Streams/Rivers

  • Few Plants because of strong current
  • Bugs/Small Organisms and on with suckers 
  • Trout feed off of dead bodies of organisms

Ponds/Lakes

  • Algae float to surface
  • Sunfish live in open water
  • Catfish live towards the bottom

Saltwater

Intertidal Zone

  • Algae sinks in water
  • Seaweed grows into the sand
  • Crabs burrow into sand
  • Clams burrow into sand
  • Starfish stick to the sand

Neritic Zone

  • Algae sinks in water 
  • Seaweed grows into the sand 
  • Coral Reefs and anemone are living on the floor
  • Large schools of fish swim in groups
  • Sardines feed off of the algae that sinks in the water

Surface Zone

  • Marsh grass grows at shore
  • Seaweed gets washed up at shore
  • Many organisms use as breeding grounds

Deep Zone

  • Few plants because of the dark
  • Swordfish feed off of dead organisms that have sunk
  • Giant squids have eyes that glow in the dark

Estuary

  • Many salt water fish swim upstream
  • Many freshwater fish swim downstream
  • Marsh plants and algae provide food for fresh and saltwater orgnisms
